A toy shop has two customers at once. The child pulling at a hand, and the parent or grandparent who pays and wants to find a present quickly, within budget and for the right age. So advertising has to work at two heights: colour, characters and play at a child’s eye level, and clear sections, prices and gift-wrapping information at an adult’s.
The second thing is the calendar. In this trade a few weeks decide the whole year: November and December, plus Children’s Day, first communions in May and back to school. So we advise doing the sign and permanent signage properly once, and having quick, cheap-to-change items for the seasons: window film, wobblers, bins, a gift catalogue. More on planning campaigns in [seasonal advertising: Christmas, sales, Black Friday](/poradnik/reklama-sezonowa-swieta-promocje).
1. Shop sign and window
A toy shop window is a stage, and the child should stop in front of it. Rather than covering all the glass, make a frame of contour-cut colourful stickers and leave the middle for the toy display. Order Christmas graphics in October, not December. A word on cartoon characters: their images belong to the licence holders, so it is better to design your shop’s own mascot for the window, and our studio can do that.
- Illuminated logo light box above the entrance→In autumn and winter afternoons, your best season, it gets dark before 4 pm. An illuminated sign is visible from across the street and from the car park.
- Colourful window frame of contour-cut stickers→Clouds, balloons, the shop mascot around the glass. The middle stays clear, so the toys keep selling themselves.
- Seasonal window graphics: Christmas, Children’s Day, first communions→Monomeric vinyl lasts the season and comes off without residue. Change the theme several times a year for a fraction of the cost of a permanent display.

2. Entrance and floor
This spot works best of all, yet most shops forget it. Hopscotch, paw prints leading to the building bricks, or a race track by the toy cars: the child plays, the parent has five minutes to choose. On the floor we use only film with R10 anti-slip laminate, because the entrance gets wet from shoes.
- Hopscotch floor sticker or a toy car track→It keeps the child in the shop and is the spot parents photograph most. Approx. 1.5 m² of film with laminate is approx. €45 net.
- Footprints and arrows leading to sections→Paws, stars or coloured dots lead to the seasonal display or the offers corner. Contour-cut from the same anti-slip film.
- Cardboard mascot standee for photos→A large figure with a face cut-out, or the shop mascot at child scale. Light, easy to move and cheap to replace with a new one next season.
3. Sales floor and shelves
Parents look for a present by age and price, not by manufacturer. Marking the shelving by age range and price band shortens conversations at the shelf and takes the pressure off staff in the December rush. Add a few strong accents for new lines and bestsellers, no more, because a toy shop is full of stimuli anyway.
- Age-range signs above the shelving: 0–3, 3–6, 6+, 10+→The simplest way for a grandmother to find a present for a grandchild on her own. Light PVC or HIPS, suspended or on the shelf rail.
- Wobblers and shelf stoppers: ‘New’, ‘Bestseller’, ‘Gifts under €15’→They stick out from the shelf and catch the eye. UV-printed HIPS is approx. €16–24 net per m², and one square metre gives several dozen pieces.
- Dump bins for small toys and soft toys→A printed card bin in the aisle or by the till sells small items up to €5–7 that children reach for themselves.
- Counter display by the till→For trading cards, stickers, small figures. A small footprint that adds value to almost every receipt.
- Wall mural in the play corner→One wall with an illustration turns an ordinary corner into a place where children want to stay. Non-woven wallpaper rated B-s1,d0 is approx. €15–25 net per m².

4. Till and gift wrapping
Most toys are bought as presents, so the wrapping station is part of the sale, not an extra. Paper with your own pattern and a logo sticker mean that a parcel from your shop ends up under the tree or at other families’ birthday parties, and reaches new customers.
- Branded paper bags→Kraft 240 × 340 × 90 mm with print: 100 pcs approx. €185 net, 500 pcs approx. €580 net. With a larger run the unit cost drops noticeably.
- Gift wrap with your own pattern→The shop mascot, stars, a repeating logo. Priced by design and quantity; it is worth ordering separate Christmas and birthday versions.
- Logo stickers for sealing parcels→A round sticker on a roll instead of tape: quicker at the till, and it immediately looks like a present from a good shop.
- Gift vouchers and cards→A lifesaver for a guest who doesn’t know what to buy a child for their birthday. We print them numbered and in an envelope, priced by design.
5. Season and promotions
A gift catalogue handed out at the till in November and put through letterboxes on nearby estates is still one of the most effective forms of advertising in this trade: children circle what they want for Christmas. Plan it together with the window display so the theme is the same.
- Christmas gift catalogue→A4, 8 pages, 1,000 copies approx. €280 net. Parents get a ready-made list, and you get circled pages they bring back to the shop.

From our experience — what to watch out for
- Order Christmas graphics in October. The queue is longest in December, and the window should be working from mid-November.
- Don’t cover the whole window with graphics. In a toy shop the view of the toys themselves sells best; the film should frame them, not hide them.
- Design your own shop mascot for the window and bags instead of cartoon heroes. It is yours, you can use it everywhere, and it builds your brand.
- Only film with anti-slip laminate on the floor. An ordinary sticker by the entrance turns as slippery as ice in winter.
- Mark age ranges and price bands in large, plain lettering. Grandparents buying a present won’t search for the information on the box.
