In this trade the customer makes a five-figure decision, usually at the kitchen table with a sales rep sitting opposite. So what the rep puts on the table matters: a proper folder, a catalogue of completed jobs, a business card. Competition is fierce and customers compare several quotes – the one that also looks solid on paper has the easier job.
The second pillar is being visible locally. Information evenings about grants in a village or community hall, a stand at the summer show, an installation van in the street, a banner on the fence of the house where you are fitting panels right now. The third thing is often overlooked: after installation, the system stays with the customer for years and needs servicing. If your sticker with a phone number is on the inverter and the heat pump, you get the call for the service, the battery storage upgrade or the breakdown.
1. The sales rep at the customer’s home
A rep’s kit is a folder, a catalogue and a business card. A folder with a pocket holds the quote, the yield simulation and the contract, and after the meeting it stays with the customer while they compare offers. A catalogue of local installations persuades more than generic stock photos. Don’t overdo the catalogue print run – your job photos change quickly, and it is better to reprint.
- Branded presentation folders→A4 folder, printed one side on 350 gsm silk with matt lamination: 100 pcs approx. €135 net, 500 pcs approx. €270 net.
- Catalogue of installations and services→Saddle-stitched A4 catalogue, 16 pages, 170 gsm matt: 100 copies approx. €220 net. Photos of local roofs and plant rooms, the installation stages, manufacturers’ warranties.
- Sales reps’ business cards→500 double-sided cards approx. €15 net. With several reps, order in one job, each with their own details.
- Leaflets on grants and your offer→A5 brochure folded in half, 1,000 pcs, approx. €90 net. Good to leave after a meeting or hand out at a fair. Grant schemes change often, so print shorter runs.

2. Installation vans
Installation crews drive round villages and housing estates – exactly where your future customers live. The van stands outside the house for the whole installation day. On the sides: what you do (solar PV, heat pumps, battery storage), phone number, website. Cast vinyl with laminate holds well in the recesses and comes off the paint when a leased van goes back.
- Livery for vans and installation vehicles→Cast vinyl with UV print is approx. €19–29 net per m², polymeric laminate approx. €8 net per m². With several vans there is one design, and every vehicle gets the same layout.
- Magnetic signs for reps’ cars→Reps often drive their own cars. They put the branded magnet on for working hours. Magnetic sheet is approx. €21–32 net per m².
3. At the customer’s: roof, plant room, fence
After installation we leave a sticker with the service number on the inverter, the heat pump and by the consumer unit. With PV systems many companies also fit a label warning that the building has a solar installation – agree the wording and position with the designer and current guidelines, and we will print it on durable film. During installation, with the owner’s permission, it is worth hanging a banner on the fence: neighbours look to see who is doing the work, and ask.
- Service stickers for inverters, heat pumps and battery storage→Logo, service phone number, a space for the service date. Contour-cut, with laminate for plant rooms and outdoors.
- PV installation warning labels→For the consumer unit and the supply point. We print on UV-resistant film with the wording you supply.
- “Installation by…” banner on the customer’s fence→A 2 × 1 m blockout banner for see-through fences: 2 m² × approx. €16, so approx. €35 net. It hangs during the installation and for a few weeks after.
- Sign for a grant-funded installation→For municipal and business projects funded by EU programmes a project sign is often compulsory. The layout and wording follow the programme’s guidelines – we make it to them.

4. Information evenings, fairs and trade shows
Grant information evenings in a village hall or community centre and a stand at the local show are a proven way to collect leads in this trade. Indoors, two roll-up banners and a table are enough. Outdoors you need a gazebo, because without a roof people won’t stop in the rain or full sun, plus a flag visible from a distance.
- Roll-up banners for indoor meetings→Roll-up banner 100 × 200 cm from approx. €65 net. One about the company, the other showing the installation step by step.
- Branded gazebo for fairs and shows→3 × 3 m pop-up gazebo with full print from approx. €750 net. It lasts several seasons, and the canopy can be replaced later.
- Beach flag by the stand and the office→Winder Midi 70 × 340 cm with pole from approx. €75 net. A ground spike for grass, a cross base or plate base for paving.
- Promotional counter for the stand→Folding counter with graphics from approx. €210 net. Up in a few minutes, with space inside for leaflets and forms.
5. Office and customer point
A customer coming in to sign a contract should find you easily. By the road a light box or 3D letters on the facade work well. Inside, instead of a bare wall, a large graphic with a photo of one of your installations looks good.
- Light box for the office front→Single-sided light box with acrylic face and LEDs from approx. €320 net per m². It still shows in autumn after 4 pm, when customers come by after work.

From our experience — what to watch out for
- Take catalogue photos on site straight after installation, in good weather, and with a drone if you have one. A roof photographed on a phone from the ground looks poor in print.
- Print grant leaflets in short runs. Scheme rules change every few months, and 5,000 out-of-date leaflets are money lost.
- On the gazebo and flag, use a short line readable from 30 metres: “Solar PV • Heat pumps” and your number. The rep will give the details anyway.
- Put the service sticker where the customer looks when something goes wrong – on the front of the inverter or heat pump casing, not on the back of the unit.
- Order folders in larger runs and leaflets in smaller ones. A folder doesn’t date; price lists and scheme terms do.
