A shop selling alcohol advertises differently from any other. In many European countries the law restricts the advertising and promotion of alcoholic drinks, and in some, Poland among them, the rules are strict. Broadly speaking: a sign with the shop name, opening hours and the fact that there is a shop here is ordinary trade information. A poster of a particular vodka or whisky on the facade, a banner with a bottle price by the road or a slogan encouraging people to drink is promotion, and that is often off limits. Beer may have its own, narrower rules. Treat this as general orientation, not legal advice: before you order any graphics, check the details with your licensing authority or a lawyer, and we will produce whatever follows from that.
In practice an off-licence wins on clarity, not slogans. A good name visible from a distance, opening hours, a tidy interior, sections that are easy to find and a gift-wrapping service are all things you can do with no risk at all. And in this trade a well-kept frontage clearly sets a shop with a good wine selection apart from a random corner outlet.
1. Fascia and frontage
The sign should say that there is a shop here and what it is called. A neutral name such as “Wines & Spirits” or your own name, plus the opening hours, is enough. Be careful with bottle graphics and producers’ logos, even if your supplier is happy to provide them: outside the shop they are the most common problem during an inspection. If the shop sits in a terrace of buildings, a projecting sign at right angles to the wall is visible from the pavement in both directions.
- Illuminated light box with the shop name→Many off-licences stay open late, so illumination pays for itself. From approx. €320 net per m², so 300 × 60 cm comes to approx. €570 net.
- Double-sided projecting sign on a bracket→Visible from the pavement in both directions, handy on narrow streets. From approx. €300 net. When it makes sense is explained in our guide to [projecting signs](/poradnik/semafor-reklamowy-co-to).
- Opening hours on the door→Cut vinyl lettering or a printed sticker. A customer who turns up in the evening wants to know whether they will make it in time.

2. Shop window
In an off-licence the window has two practical jobs: protect the stock from the sun and stop passers-by seeing what is on the shelves behind the till. Wine and beer do not take sunlight well, and hot glass raises the temperature by the shelving. One-way vision film hides the interior and cuts the light, while from inside you can still see the street. For the graphics choose the shop name, your colours, a vineyard or glasses with no brands, not specific products.
- One-way vision film across the whole window→Graphics outside, a view of the street from inside. Approx. €10–18 net per m². How it works is explained in our guide to [one-way vision film](/poradnik/folia-one-way-vision).
- Band with the name and hours at eye level→Easy to read from the pavement even when the rest of the window is dark. Printed monomeric vinyl approx. €6–12 net per m².
3. Point-of-sale notices
Where alcohol is sold, notices are usually required about the harm caused by alcohol and the ban on selling to under-18s and intoxicated people. Check the exact wording and requirements with your licensing authority or in the terms of your licence. From us you get durable signs that do not look like a sheet of paper stuck on with tape and will not fade after a year by the till.
- Required notices at the till→Reverse-printed acrylic or PVC, on stand-off fixings or tape. UV-printed acrylic is approx. €43–60 net per m², and an A4 sign takes about 0.06 m².
- “Please show your ID” sign→Makes it easier for the cashier to talk to a young customer. Same series, same material as the other notices.
- CCTV sticker on the door→Notice of video surveillance at the entrance, in vinyl that stands up to the weather.

4. Interior and shelves
Inside, order is what counts. A customer looking for a wine for dinner or a present for the boss wants to get to the right shelf fast and see the price. Aisle signs, clear shelf-edge price strips and wrapped fridges are trade information that works on every receipt. Rules can also apply to material about specific drinks inside the shop, so before you order anything beyond navigation signs and prices, make sure what you are allowed to do.
- Aisle signs: wine, beer, soft drinks, snacks, gifts→Suspended or on top of the shelving, printed 3 mm PVC. Approx. €21–33 net per m².
- Shelf-edge price strips→Uniform, legible strips on the shelf edge instead of handwritten notes. Synthetic paper approx. €10–16 net per m², which does not go soggy by the chillers.
- Fridge and chiller wraps→Shop name, your colours, “cold drinks” on the side and top of the fridge. Printed monomeric vinyl approx. €6–12 net per m².
5. Gifts and packaging
A bottle of wine or a good spirit is one of the most common presents: for a name day, for the hosts, for a business partner. A shop that wraps a bottle nicely sells at a higher price and more often. A bottle bag, a box and a gift tag with the shop name also carry your name further, without advertising the alcohol itself.
- Paper bags with the shop name→Printed kraft: 100 bags approx. €185 net, 500 bags approx. €580 net. Narrow single-bottle bags are priced to size.
- Bottle gift boxes→With a window or solid, with the shop name. Priced by bottle size and quantity.
- Gift tags and bottle-neck hangers→Space for a message and the shop name on the back. A small thing customers are very happy to pick up at the till.
- Occasion labels for corporate orders→Companies order gifts with their own card or a logo sticker on the box. We print them in short runs, priced per design.

From our experience — what to watch out for
- Do not hang suppliers’ material with alcohol brands outside. It is the most common mistake in this trade, and a sign with just the shop name puts nobody at risk.
- Cover the sunny side of the window with film. The stock heats up less, and nobody can see from the street what is kept by the till.
- When choosing the shop name, check with the licensing authority that it does not look like an advert for a particular drink or brand.
- Make the required point-of-sale notices durable signs. A faded sheet of paper at the till reflects badly on the whole shop.
- Keep the gift-wrapping kit by the till, not in the back room. A customer who can see the bag and the tag asks for them more often.
