Signage for a food wholesaler and cash & carry

For food wholesalers and cash & carry warehouses we make signage from the entrance to the till: a pylon or totem by the road, boards for delivery drivers, aisle numbering, floor graphics, shelf-edge price strips in large runs, wobblers and pallet skirts for supplier promotions, promotional leaflets, and for the delivery side, van livery, printed packing tape and labels with your logo. For several depots we produce to a single design and send a pack to each site.

A wholesaler gets two kinds of visitor, and both are in a hurry. The owner of a shop or restaurant comes with a list, wants to find the aisle quickly, compare prices and leave with a full trolley. The supplier’s driver is looking for the loading bay and the goods-in office. If either of them has to ask the way, you lose time, and pay a member of staff to explain where things are instead of filling shelves.

The second issue is prices. In a wholesaler they change often, supplier promotions come and go every two weeks, and there are thousands of shelf-edge strips. So we advise splitting it into two layers: permanent warehouse signage, done once and done properly, and consumables (price labels, wobblers, leaflets) planned so that changing them is quick and cheap.

1. Entrance, car park and loading bay

The first sign should be by the road, before the customer passes the turning. Past the gate, split the traffic: customer parking one way, suppliers to the loading bay the other. A board for drivers with a site plan and the goods-in phone number saves phone calls and lorries reversing through a car park full of customers.

2. Warehouse floor: aisles and flooring

Aisle signs hang above the walkway, double-sided, with a number and two or three categories. The number must be bigger than the text: customers remember “six, drinks”, not the full department name. On the floor we mark pedestrian routes, set-down areas and forklift zones. Colours and line routes are set by your health and safety adviser; we choose a material that will stand up to the traffic.

3. Prices and promotions

Order shelf-edge strips in a format that suits your label printing system, with spares for replacing damaged ones. For supplier promotions it pays to have a ready “campaign template”: wobblers in one shape, pallet skirts, a poster for the aisle end. Then you only change the artwork, not the whole system.

4. Deliveries to customers

If you deliver to shops and restaurants, your van is seen by more people than your warehouse. A large name, the order line and what you supply is enough. For parcel dispatch, printed packing tape and address labels speed up packing and show straight away who the goods came from.

  • Van livery→Printed cast vinyl approx. €19–29 net per m², laminate approx. €8 net per m². For a fleet we make sure the colour matches on every vehicle. More in our guide to [company vehicle wraps](/poradnik/oklejanie-samochodu-firmowego).
  • Packing tape with your logo→36 rolls of 48 mm × 60 m with a three-colour print is approx. €290 net. You can see at once whether anyone has opened the box.
  • Roll labels for cartons and own packing→Your company details, “keep refrigerated” labels, labels for goods packed on site. We choose an adhesive for card, film and low temperatures.

5. Staff and wholesale networks

A customer on the shop floor is looking for someone to ask, and a uniform T-shirt or sweatshirt points them out straight away. For several depots in different towns we keep to one design and colour, pack a set for every site and install with our own crew outside opening hours.

From our experience — what to watch out for

  • Make the aisle number bigger than the category name. Customers remember the number, and department names change when you reorganise anyway.
  • Before you order thousands of shelf-edge strips, trial them on a few racks. Check they fit the shelf profile and that labels from your printer stick to them properly.
  • In cold rooms and freezers use synthetic paper and labels with low-temperature adhesive. Ordinary paper and adhesive fall off within days.
  • Separate supplier traffic from customers before the gate. A sign placed past the barrier is too late: the lorry is already in the car park.
  • Keep a standard template for supplier promotions. The supplier provides the artwork and you only order a new print, not a new solution.

FAQ · Food wholesaler and cash & carry

Frequently asked questions

How much does aisle signage for a wholesaler cost?

A 60 × 30 cm sign in 5 mm PVC is about 0.18 m², so 20 signs come to approx. €145 net at approx. €39 per m². With more signs the rate per square metre drops. Installation: our crew costs approx. €42 net per hour.

Will floor vinyl stand up to forklift traffic?

On pedestrian routes and in set-down areas it works well. On routes with heavy forklift traffic treat it as something to replace periodically. More in our guide to [floor stickers](/poradnik/naklejki-podlogowe).

Can you prepare material for a supplier promotion in several depots at once?

Yes. We print wobblers, posters and pallet skirts, pack a set for each depot and send them to the addresses. How it works step by step is described in our guide [shipping to multiple stores](/poradnik/wysylka-do-wielu-sklepow).

Do you install at night so the warehouse can stay open?

Yes, we schedule installation around your opening hours. Night or out-of-hours work by our crew is from approx. €65 net per hour, and we have a lift reaching up to 18 m.

How quickly can we get new promotional leaflets?

Normally about 3 working days from file approval. Give us the promotion start date when you order; it is often possible to make it without express service.
