Hardly anyone walks into a medical supply shop by chance. They come with a prescription, after discharge from hospital, or for advice because their mum needs a walking frame. Often it's an older person on crutches, or a relative looking for the shop for the first time and driving to an address from a search engine. The sign must be visible from a car, and the window should say at once what can be bought here: braces, compression stockings, rehabilitation equipment, equipment hire.
Inside, order and discretion count. Dozens of sizes of supports must be displayed so customers find their section themselves, and fitting a corset or stockings happens in a fitting room nobody can see into. Advertising of medical devices is restricted by regulations, so product descriptions are best taken from manufacturers' materials, and promotional wording checked with the distributor or a lawyer.
1. Facade and window
Many shops are next to a hospital or clinic, in a row of other units. Customers arrive by car, so the sign must be readable from the road, and step-free access information should be by the door.
- Light box over the entrance→Single-sided light box from approx. €320 net per m². Illuminated, it's visible on short winter afternoons when the shop is busiest.
- Projecting sign at the entrance→Visible from the pavement in both directions. Double-sided projecting sign with bracket from approx. €300 net.
- Window listing your range→Braces, stockings, rehabilitation equipment, prescriptions dispensed, hours. Printed vinyl approx. €6–12 net per m², plus product photos from manufacturers.
- 'Equipment hire' banner→If you hire out wheelchairs, beds or walking frames, say so plainly on the facade. Coated 510 g banner approx. €7–13 net per m².
- Sign by the bell for wheelchair users→When there's a threshold or step at the door: 'ring and we'll come out'. A small thing, and the customer doesn't drive away.

2. Sales floor and display
The range is small in size and very varied in sizing. What works best is zoning by body part (knee, spine, foot, wrist) with large signs above the shelving.
- Hook stands for braces and supports→A printed PVC or board panel with hooks for packs in each size. Printed 5 mm PVC approx. €26–39 net per m²; the whole stand is quoted by size.
- Counter displays→For small items at the till: plasters, insoles, thermometers. Bent acrylic or printed cardboard.
- Price cards, wobblers and section signs→Colour-coded zone signs and HIPS price cards, approx. €16–24 net per m² of material. Customers find their section and size themselves.
- LED frame with changeable graphics→A backlit graphic for a new or seasonal product. A1 from approx. €165 net; you change the graphic yourself.
3. Fitting room and fitting area
Fitting a corset, stockings or a breast prosthesis requires privacy. A glazed door or a half-height curtain is the most common reason a customer prefers to buy elsewhere.
- Frosted film on glazing→Full screening while keeping the light. Approx. €12–21 net per m²; a logo or lettering can be cut into it.
- 'Fitting room' door sign→Calm and readable, with a changeable 'occupied / free' strip or fitting hours by appointment.

4. For the customer
Medical supply customers often come back: for another pair of stockings, a new size, hired equipment. Make it easy for them.
- Branded paper bags→A boxed brace fits inside, and the shop name goes home with it. 100 kraft bags 240 × 340 × 90 mm with print approx. €185 net.
- Leaflet: reimbursement, sizing, equipment hire→How to use a prescription, how to measure leg circumference, what can be hired. An A5 folder in a run of 1,000 costs approx. €90 net.
5. Online shop and shipping
More and more medical supply shops also sell online. A branded parcel and proper packaging signal to the customer that they've found a real shop, not a random seller.
- Printed shipping boxes→Sized for your products, in small runs too. Quoted by size and quantity.
- Branded packing tape→The cheapest way to brand every parcel. 36 rolls of 48 mm tape with a 3-colour print cost approx. €290 net; other variants quoted on request.

From our experience — what to watch out for
- State in the window which prescriptions or reimbursed items you dispense. It's the first question people phone about.
- Sign sections by body part, not by manufacturer. Customers know their knee hurts, not the brand name of the support.
- The fitting room must be fully screened. Half-height film isn't enough in this trade.
- If you hire out equipment, show it outside with separate lettering. Many people don't know a bed or wheelchair can be hired rather than bought.
- HIPS price cards last for years; paper cards look tatty after a few weeks. With a large range, the difference in how the shop looks is huge.
