A county orders differently from a town or municipality. Fewer fêtes, more investments spread across several municipalities: rebuilding a county road, insulating a secondary school, new equipment for a hospital or care home. Each one means a sign, often two (a site board and a funding sign), and a commemorative plaque once it is finished. On top of that, the county office deals with hundreds of visitors a day in vehicle registration, land survey or building control, and good signage cuts the queue of questions at the information desk.
Orders usually go through a request for quotation or the office’s internal procurement rules. You need a contractor who returns a quote that matches the specification, states materials and lead time, and then drives out with the sign to a stretch of road 40 km from the office. We do this from design to installation. On funding programme requirements and road authority approvals we only describe general principles; the grant agreement and the programme guidelines are what count.
1. Road and school investments
With several projects running at once, most time is lost keeping track of templates: one set of logos for a national programme, another for EU funds. It is best to gather all of the year’s signs into one order with an installation schedule, as we describe in our guide to [signs for multiple projects](/poradnik/tablice-dla-gminy-wiele-projektow).
- EU-funded or grant project sign→Dibond with UV print on a galvanised frame, 200 × 100 cm from approx. €165 net. We lay out the design according to your grant agreement.
- Site board by a county road→300 × 200 cm with legs from approx. €350 net. Beside the road we place it so that it doesn’t block sightlines at the junction.
- Commemorative plaque on a building→After a school retrofit or a hospital refurbishment. Acrylic or Dibond on stainless steel stand-off fixings, mounted on the façade.
- Scaffold mesh during a retrofit→A mesh banner showing the finished building hides the scaffolding and shows residents where the money is going. 370 g mesh with pole pockets approx. €10–17 net per m².

2. The office building and service halls
Most visitors come to the county office once every few years: to register a car, collect a driving licence, apply for planning permission. They don’t know the building. Signage should take them from the entrance to the right desk without asking security. We start with a survey on site.
- Wayfinding system→A department directory at the entrance, direction signs on each floor, pictograms. Survey from approx. €85 net, refunded when you order production.
- Door and desk signs→Room number fixed, service name on an interchangeable insert. When a department is reorganised you change the insert, not the whole sign.
- Office name in letters on the façade→Non-illuminated Dibond or acrylic letters from approx. €16 net per character at 30 cm high. Readable from the car park, no power needed.
- Flags with the county coat of arms→A 150 × 90 cm hemmed pole flag with clips, approx. €45 net. Outdoors it fades and frays, so keep a spare set.
3. County boundary and tourism
A welcome sign on the approach road and boards at local attractions are the county’s calling card. Locations within the road reserve are agreed with the highway authority, and elsewhere with the landowner; we supply the drawings these approvals need.
- Welcome sign with coat of arms→A Dibond totem on a steel frame, 2.5 m high, from approx. €750 net. Illuminated versions are priced from the design.
- Information boards with maps→By trails, nature reserves and historic sites. Dibond with UV print; where vandalism is a risk, with anti-graffiti laminate (approx. €10 net per m²).
- County tourist map→A folded map with cycle routes and accommodation, for information points and fairs. Priced by format and number of folds.

4. County promotion and fairs
Counties attend tourism, investment and agricultural fairs, and at home they run harvest festivals and county days. It pays to own one stand kit with undated graphics and reprint only what changes.
- Fabric wall and promotional counter→A 300 × 230 cm pop-up wall from approx. €400 net, a folding counter with graphics from approx. €210 net. It fits in the boot of an official car.
- Roll-up banners for conferences and council meetings→An 85 × 200 cm roll-up banner from approx. €55 net. One with the coat of arms, another for a specific project; they come in handy at every contract signing.
- County gazebo→3 × 3 m with full print from approx. €750 net. For harvest festivals, picnics and an information point at events in the municipalities.
- Gifts for delegations and anniversaries→A boxed set engraved with the coat of arms from approx. €6 net each for 50 pieces. For guests from twinned regions and competition winners.
5. Print, archive and documentation
People rarely think of a sign company for this, but county offices have plenty of needs here. Land survey and building control work with large sheets, and the promotion team orders brochures and calendars every year.
- Scanning large-format maps and plansAn A0 scan is approx. €2.35 net per sheet; for archives of 500+ sheets approx. €1.80 net. We name the files and sort them into folders as agreed.
- A0 technical printsA colour A0 print is approx. €6 net each, useful for council meetings, consultations and putting plans on public display.
- Brochures and guides→1,000 A5 four-page leaflets cost approx. €90 net. Guides to social services, school prospectuses, tourist guides.

From our experience — what to watch out for
- Attach the relevant extract from the grant agreement to your request for a sign. Most corrections come from an out-of-date set of logos.
- Order signs for county roads in one batch, with a list of locations and dates. The crew can cover the county in one or two days instead of five separate trips.
- Set the legs of a site board in concrete. Put up in a hurry on the verge, it leans after the first winter and the first snowplough.
- In service hall signage, use the names of services: ‘vehicle registration’, ‘driving licences’, ‘maps for planning applications’. The department name means nothing to a visitor.
- Design trade fair graphics without the year or this edition’s slogan. Next year you replace one panel, not the whole wall.
