In this line of work signage does a different job from anywhere else. Nobody picks a funeral director because of a special offer. The family is searching at a hard moment, often in the evening or in a hurry, and needs two things: to find the phone number quickly and to reach the right address without getting lost. So our advice is to keep everything clear and calm above all. Dark or muted colours, a simple typeface, no slogans and no loud graphics.
The other half of the work is print that you reorder regularly: death notice blanks, brochures for the arrangement meeting, document folders, thank-you cards. Here the deadline matters most, because the service has a fixed date. Some items can be printed in advance and kept in stock, and urgent one-off orders we turn round in 24 hours. How that works is explained in our guide to [turnaround times and express service](/poradnik/terminy-realizacji-ekspres).
1. Building front and approach
The sign outside is there mainly to inform: name, phone number and a note that you answer around the clock. It is often worth adding one directional sign by the main road or near the cemetery, because the family is driving to this address for the first time. In town centres the look of shop signs may be governed by local rules, so check with the council before ordering.
- Sign with name and 24-hour number→3 mm aluminium composite panel (Dibond) with UV print, approx. €35–55 net per m². Matt, in a dark colour, readable from the street and weatherproof for many years.
- Built-up 3D letters for the facade→Non-illuminated, cut from Dibond or acrylic, from approx. €16 net per character at 30 cm high. They look dignified and need no power supply.
- Softly lit sign with phone number→If families also arrive after dark, a small light box with soft white light keeps the number readable at night. Single-sided light box from approx. €320 net per m².
- Roadside directional sign→An arrow and the distance to your office or funeral home. Putting it up by the road needs the landowner’s or highway authority’s consent.

2. Office, funeral home and chapel
The office is where conversations happen that the family would rather not have seen from the street. Frosted film on the glass gives privacy without taking away daylight. In the funeral home and chapel visitors are often there for the first time, so simple, consistent door signs help them find the right room without asking staff.
- Frosted film for the office window and door→Approx. €12–21 net per m². We can cut your name and opening hours into the film itself, with no extra graphics.
- Door plaques for rooms and office→Printed acrylic on stand-off fixings, approx. €43–60 net per m². Chapel, farewell room, office, family room – all in one calm style.
- Directional signs inside the building→At the entrance and where corridors split. Mourners do not have to stop staff to ask the way.
3. The arrangement meeting
A family in the office takes in a lot of information at once and rarely remembers it. A brochure of your services they can take home, and a folder in which you hand over the paperwork, keep things in order at a time when nobody has the head for it.
- Services brochure or catalogue→A calm layout, photos of coffins and urns, a note on the formalities. A4 catalogue, 16 pages, 100 copies approx. €220 net.
- Document folder for the family→A4, 350 gsm board with matt lamination, 100 folders approx. €135 net. All documents and confirmations in one place.
- Business cards with the 24-hour number→1,000 double-sided cards approx. €25 net. They stay with families, hospices, care homes and parishes.

4. Made-to-order service stationery
These are short-notice orders, often for the next day. It pays to have templates ready: the death notice border, the thank-you card layout, the portrait size. Then only the wording changes with each order and we can start straight away.
- Death notice blanks with your details→The border and a footer with your name are printed in advance and kept in stock; you add the wording on your office printer. We match the format and paper to your printer and quote individually.
- Thank-you cards and memorial cards→Cards thanking people for attending, or with a prayer and photo. Short runs printed to the family’s order, quoted individually.
- Portrait for the service→A photo on a rigid, lightweight board to stand on an easel. 3 mm foam PVC with UV print costs approx. €21–33 net per m², and we check the file before printing.
- Grave marker plaques→UV print on board or acrylic that stands up to rain and sun until the headstone goes in. We set up the design once; after that you change only the details.
5. Hearse and vehicles
Hearse lettering should be understated. Usually the name and phone number cut from silver, white or gold vinyl are enough, with no full-colour graphics. The side windows can be screened with frosted or decorative film.
- Vinyl lettering for the hearse→Letters cut from vinyl, approx. €1.40 net per metre of cutting line plus material. Discreet, durable and easy to remove when you change vehicles. Quoted from a photo of the car.
- Film for the hearse windows→Matt or with a subtle pattern; it lets light through and hides the interior. Approx. €12–21 net per m².

From our experience — what to watch out for
- After the name, the phone number should be the largest thing on the sign. If you answer 24 hours a day, say so plainly.
- Stick to two or three muted colours: graphite, navy, white, perhaps gold or silver as an accent. A calm sign dates far more slowly.
- Order death notice blanks in bulk, but before we print the full run, test one sheet in your own printer. Not every office printer handles heavier paper well.
- The photo for the portrait often comes from the family’s phone. At around 30 × 40 cm that is usually enough; we check the file before printing and tell you straight away if it will come out blurred.
- On a hearse, cut vinyl letters work better than a printed graphic. They are discreet and easy to remove when the vehicle is sold.
