A machinery dealer sells in the yard, not in a showroom. Tractors, balers and loaders stand outside by the road, and they are the best advertising there is, provided that from the road it is clear whose yard it is, where to drive in and that there is a workshop and parts counter too. The customer is a farmer or a construction business owner who takes a long time to decide, compares, goes to demonstrations and shows, and often buys from whoever turned up with a service van during harvest.
In this trade, advertising has to survive mud, sun, wind on open ground and the pressure washer. What the farmer keeps at home and in the cab matters too: the calendar in the kitchen, the cap, the folder with the machine’s paperwork, the dealer decal on the mudguard. The season is clear-cut: demonstrations before harvest and in autumn, shows and contract signing in winter, because that is when there is time and budget.
1. Yard, entrance and road
A dealer’s yard is visible from far away, but without a sign by the road it looks like any other machinery yard. A pylon or totem at the entrance, flags on poles along the fence and a banner reading ‘service, parts, used machines’ do the job. On open ground we always allow for wind: mesh instead of solid banner on a long fence, reinforced eyelets, weighted bases.
- Pylon or totem at the yard entrance→Visible from the road in both directions, with the logo and a list of services. Non-illuminated 2.5 m totem from approx. €750 net, illuminated 3 m pylon from approx. €2,070 net without foundation.
- Flags on poles along the road→A hemmed 150 × 90 cm flag with clips is approx. €45 net. Wind fades and frays them, so plan to replace them every season.
- Banners on the yard fence→On a mesh fence we use black-back banner or mesh so the wind doesn’t rip the whole thing off. Keep slogans short, for a tractor driver passing at 30 km/h.
- Directional signs in the yard: service, parts, used machines→A customer after parts shouldn’t have to search for the office between the machines. Dibond signs on posts last for years.

2. Workshop building, service and parts counter
The workshop usually has metal cladding and doors several metres high. An illuminated logo on the gable is visible from the road in winter after dark too, when farmers drop in after work on the farm. For franchised dealers we print to the manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Logo light box on the building gable→Single-sided light box from approx. €320 net per m². Installed by our own crew from a lift reaching 18 m.
- Service bay door and parts counter signs→Large bay numbers and a ‘Parts’ sign above the entrance. The mechanic tells the customer ‘drive into bay three’ and that is it.
3. Machines and service vehicles
Every machine sold is moving advertising for ten or fifteen years, as long as it carries the dealer decal. The mobile service van tours the villages at harvest and parks in yards where the neighbours gather. A large phone number matters here, not just a logo.
- Dealer decals for machines→Contour-cut on polymeric vinyl that stands up to the pressure washer and sun (5–7 years). A decal on the mudguard or cab tells the neighbour where to buy and where to get it serviced.
- Mobile service van livery→Logo, ‘24h service in season’ and the phone number on both sides and the rear. Cast vinyl with laminate approx. €19–29 net per m², survives farm tracks.

4. Field days, demonstrations and shows
A field demonstration or a stand at an agricultural show is where next year’s decisions are made. The display kit has to cope with wind, rain and several trips a season. The usual set is a gazebo for visitors, flags around it and a counter with catalogues.
- Printed gazebo for field days→A 3 × 4.5 m gazebo with full print from approx. €1,030 net. Farmers shelter from the sun under it and the sales rep has somewhere to spread out the paperwork.
- Show stand: backdrop, counter, roll-ups→Fabric backdrop 300 × 230 cm from approx. €400 net, promotional counter from approx. €210. We replace the graphics for the new season, the frame stays.
5. Materials for customers
Farmers take the paperwork home and decide at the kitchen table, sometimes with a son or daughter, sometimes with a grant adviser. The catalogue, the folder with the quote and finance documents and, in winter, the calendar all end up in the kitchen or the farm office. A cap with the dealer logo is a classic in this trade and it still works.
- Machinery and service catalogue→A4 catalogue, 16 pages, 100 copies approx. €220 net, 500 copies approx. €490. Put prices on a separate insert, as they change more often than the catalogue.
- Folders for quotes and finance paperwork→A4 folder with logo, 100 pcs approx. €135 net. All the machine’s papers in one place, with the workshop number on the cover.
- Wall calendar with machine photos→It hangs in the kitchen or workshop all year. Photos of machines sold in your own area work better than brochure shots.
- Branded caps and T-shirts→For demonstrations and regular customers. Transfer print on a cap is approx. €2.60 net per piece from 25 pcs.
- Grant plaque for a customer who bought with funding→Some funding programmes require the purchased equipment to be marked; the farmer checks the requirements in the grant agreement. We can produce the plaque together with your order.

From our experience — what to watch out for
- On open ground, flags wear out faster than anything else. Order a spare set straight away so you can swap them before the demonstration season.
- Dealer decals should be on polymeric vinyl, not monomeric. Cheap film cracks after a year of sun and pressure washing and looks worse than no decal at all.
- On a service van the phone number must be readable from 20 metres. Everyone recognises the machinery brand logo anyway; it is the number that has to stick.
- Order catalogues and materials for winter shows in November. In January printers are busy with calendars and trade show work.
- Split a long fence banner into sections a few metres long. A piece damaged by wind or a loader is cheap to replace.
