Flyer sizes at a glance: dimensions and uses
| Size | Trimmed size | How much fits | Where it works best |
|---|---|---|---|
| A6 | 105 × 148 mm | slogan, discount, address, QR | handing out, parcel inserts, counters |
| DL | 99 × 210 mm | bullet-point offer, menu, short price list | racks, envelopes, car windscreens |
| A5 | 148 × 210 mm | offer with photos and prices | letterbox drops, newspaper inserts, receptions |
| A4 | 210 × 297 mm | full offer, price list, map | take-home material, office display |
| Folded DL (A4 folded in three) | 99 × 210 mm, 6 pages | menu, service list, event programme | clinics, restaurants, information points |
| Folded A5 (A4 folded in half) | 148 × 210 mm, 4 pages | mini brochure, invitation, programme | trade shows, training, open days |
A sizes are standardised, so A6, A5 and A4 flyers fit common plastic sleeves, ring binders and frames. DL is the size of a standard business envelope, which is why it goes into letters and into racks by the till.
A6 or A5: which is better for handing out?
This is the question we hear most. The short answer: A6 for a promotion, A5 for an offer.
A6 is cheap and small, and people are more willing to take it. It fits a pocket or wallet. But there is only as much space as on a large postcard. If you want to squeeze in a logo, five services, a price list, a map and opening hours, you cannot. Or you can, but nobody will read it.
A5 is the safe choice when the flyer has to sell something. It fits a product photo, a few offer points and a price. It also suits letterbox drops: it does not crumple like A4 and does not get lost like A6.
From our experience, it is the small flyers that are most often overloaded. If while designing you start shrinking text to 7 pt to make everything fit, it is a sign you need a bigger size or a folded leaflet.
Whatever the size, the flyer should say clearly what the reader is to do: call, visit the website, bring the flyer in for a discount. One clear phone number or QR code works better than five contact options in small print. The promotion's end date also belongs on the front, not somewhere on the back.

When to choose a folded leaflet over a flat flyer
A folded leaflet makes sense when the content naturally splits into parts: a menu with dish categories, a clinic's range of treatments, a conference programme. An A4 folded in three gives 6 pages in DL format; folded in half, 4 pages of A5.
The price comparison shows the difference is smaller than you might think. A 6-page DL leaflet, 4/4 on 130 g silk, costs approx. €90 net per 1,000 with us. A 4-page A5 leaflet in the same spec costs about the same, approx. €90 net. Full options are on the flyers and folded leaflets page.
What to watch out for with folded leaflets:
- With a roll fold (folding inwards), the panel that tucks inside must be 1–3 mm narrower than the others, or it will buckle at the fold. Our templates allow for this, but if you design it yourself, ask us for the panel widths.
- From about 170 gsm, the paper needs creasing before folding. Without it the ink cracks along the spine and a white line shows.
- Do not put important text or faces on the fold line.
DL: the underrated size
DL (99 × 210 mm) is chosen less often than it should be. It is tall and narrow, so it looks good in a counter rack and under a windscreen wiper, where it sticks out and the driver notices it. It fits a standard DL envelope, so it works as an insert with invoices and correspondence.
A vertical layout works well on a flat DL flyer: logo at the top, 3–5 offer points, a price or discount, contact details at the bottom. For a service price list or a takeaway menu, it is one of the most practical sizes.
One caveat: in a letterbox, a DL is easy to miss among supermarket leaflets, which are usually A4. If the flyer is going through letterboxes, A5 will stand out more. For larger chains and campaigns across several outlets, our A4 promotional leaflets are also useful.
With DL flyers, pay attention to photo proportions. A tall, narrow format does not suit wide panoramas: choose portrait shots or images that can be cropped to a narrow strip without losing the point.

How to choose: a few questions before ordering
- How will the flyer reach people? Handed out in the street: A6 or DL. Letterboxes: A5. Envelopes: DL. Displayed in a clinic: a folded leaflet.
- How much content is really needed? List what has to go on it. If it comes to more than 5–6 points and a photo, A6 is out.
- Should the flyer last? A takeaway menu or a price list someone will stick to the fridge is worth printing on heavier paper. A one-off promotion flyer can be lighter; we cover paper in which paper for flyers.
- What quantity? For a few hundred, the price differences between sizes are smaller than for several thousand. As quantities grow, how many flyers fit on a sheet starts to matter.
- By when? Standard turnaround is about 3 working days; folded leaflets add folding time. 24-hour express is possible for simple flat flyers.
