A fuel yard or sawmill is usually a big yard by the road, often outside town, with a simple office in a cabin. Customers come in two kinds: those who come every year and know the way, and those just starting the heating season or a building project and looking for the nearest yard. The second group decides from the car: if they cannot see from the road what you sell and how to ring you, they drive on.
Fuel prices change several times a season, and what a sawmill sells depends on what is in the yard at the moment. So we recommend advertising with swappable parts: a permanent board with your name and phone number, and prices on separate plates or stickers that you change without reprinting the whole thing. The heating season starts in September, so it is worth having everything ready by the end of August.
1. By the road
From a car doing 70 km/h, people read three, maybe four words. Put on the banner what people type into a search engine: “Coal · Pellets · Logs · Kindling” or “Sawmill · Roof timber · Boards”, plus a big phone number and an arrow to the entrance. On a mesh fence, always use a banner with a black back or mount it on a frame; otherwise it shows through and tears sooner.
- Fence banners along the road→A 5 × 1.5 m coated PVC banner is approx. €70 net (7.5 m² × approx. €9). How to fix it so it does not split in the wind is covered in our guide [how to hang a banner on a fence](/poradnik/jak-powiesic-baner-na-ogrodzeniu).
- Beach flags at the entrance→A moving flag marks the turning from a distance. Winder Maxi 90 × 440 cm from approx. €125 net, a ground spike from approx. €19 net.
- Totem with name and phone number by the gate→A permanent sign that lasts for years. Aluminium composite totem on a steel frame, 2.5 m high, from approx. €750 net, excluding foundation.
- Billboard poster on the approach road→When the yard is a few kilometres off the main road. A 6 × 3 m blueback poster is approx. €75 net (18 m² × approx. €4). We can put up the structure too.

2. Yard, price list and signage
A customer in the yard should know without asking where the office is, where the weighbridge is, where the coal is and where the firewood is, and what it costs. We make the price board from aluminium composite panel, with the prices themselves on separate screw-on or stick-on panels. When a price changes, you replace one panel, not the whole board.
- Price board by the office→200 × 100 cm aluminium composite panel on a galvanised frame from approx. €165 net. Product names printed permanently, prices on swappable panels.
- Signs at bays and stacks→Type of fuel or species and size of timber, price per tonne, m³ or stacked cubic metre. 8 signs 60 × 40 cm in aluminium composite come to approx. €110 net (1.92 m² × approx. €55).
- Yard directions: office, weighbridge, in, out→So lorries and customers with trailers do not block each other. Aluminium composite signs that last outdoors. How it differs from PVC is explained in our guide [outdoor signs: Dibond or PVC](/poradnik/tablice-dibond-czy-pcv-na-zewnatrz).
- Yard safety signs→Beware of forklifts, staff only, where to wait for loading. The wording comes from your health and safety adviser; we make signs that stand up to rain and sun.
3. Bags, nets and pallets
Fuel and firewood in bags with your name are advertising that ends up in the customer’s cellar or boiler room and stays there all winter. When the stock runs out, your number is to hand. It is also worth stating what is inside on bags and pallets: customers increasingly ask about the moisture content of wood and the calorific value of fuel.
- Printed bags for pellets, coal and logs→Poly bags with the yard name and phone number. Priced by size, film thickness and quantity.
- Labels for bags, nets and pallets→Type, weight, the parameters you have measured, and your phone number. We match roll labels to the film and to work in frost.

4. Transport
A tipper or a crane lorry drives all round the area and stands outside customers’ houses while unloading. The neighbour sees the delivery and remembers the name and number, which is the cheapest contact with a new customer you can get. On the doors and sides we put a big phone number and two or three words about what you sell.
- Livery for a tipper, crane lorry or van→Printed cast vinyl approx. €19–29 net per m², laminate approx. €8 net per m². On working vehicles the laminate protects against grit and the pressure washer. More in our guide to [company vehicle wraps](/poradnik/oklejanie-samochodu-firmowego).
- Magnetic signs for small deliveries→For a private car or the pick-up you use for smaller orders. Take them off after work. Printed magnetic sheet approx. €21–32 net per m².
5. Regular customers and the season
In this trade customers come back every year if they remember where they bought. A wall calendar with your number hangs in the kitchen or boiler room for twelve months. Hand out a leaflet at the till before the season and leave some in shops in the surrounding villages.
- Three-month wall calendars for customers→Handed out with purchases in December and January. Priced by quantity. Order in September, as we explain in our guide [company calendars: when to order](/poradnik/kalendarze-firmowe-kiedy-zamowic).
- Pre-season price leaflet→Range, delivery, phone number. For example, a 6-page DL leaflet, 1,000 copies, is approx. €90 net; simpler leaflets are priced on request.
- Branded workwear→Drivers and yard staff in matching sweatshirts look like a business you can trust. A4 print at 20–49 pcs approx. €3.30 net each.

From our experience — what to watch out for
- Order heating-season material in August. In September customers are already phoning, and the banner should be up by then, not waiting at the printer.
- On a roadside banner name your products in the words people search with: coal, pellets, firewood, kindling. The company name comes second.
- Keep prices on swappable panels. Reprinting the whole board every time the coal price changes is money thrown away.
- On a mesh fence order a banner with a black back or mount it on a frame. See-through mesh hurts legibility, and the wind damages it faster.
- On a tipper put a big phone number on the back too, not just on the doors. The driver behind you has plenty of time to read it.
