What can go on a facade – a comparison
| Type | Price | Where it works |
|---|---|---|
| Mesh 270 g with liner | approx. €7–13 / m² | large formats, temporary campaigns; perforation reduces wind load by approx. 40% |
| Reinforced mesh 370 g | approx. €10–17 / m² | gable walls, scaffolding; top/bottom pole pockets included |
| Coated banner 510 g on a frame | approx. €7–13 / m² + frame | permanent signage with changeable graphics |
| 3 mm dibond sign | approx. €35–55 / m² | shop signs and panels for years; lifespan of 10 years or more |
| Single-sided light box | from approx. €320 / m² | premises open in the evening, visibility from the street |
| Face-lit letters, h = 30 cm | from approx. €46 / character | elegant lettering without a background; +approx. €11 for each extra 10 cm of height |
The spread of print prices comes from quantity breaks: the larger the area, the lower the rate per m². 370 g mesh costs approx. €17/m² at 1–4 m², but approx. €11/m² at 16–49 m². When to choose mesh and when solid banner is covered in our guide mesh or banner.
Permissions – what to check before ordering
We do not give ready-made answers here, because the rules differ by country, municipality, building and type of signage. We show where to ask:
- The owner, freeholder or building manager. We do not start without their consent. In multi-owner buildings a formal resolution is often required, and lease agreements frequently contain a clause on facade signage.
- The local authority or planning department. Check whether local planning or design rules apply. They can set the maximum size of signage, the number of signs per unit, how it may be lit and even the colours. In the UK, for example, many illuminated signs need advertisement consent.
- Building control. Some signs and advertising structures may need a notification or permit – especially large ones permanently fixed to the building. That is decided by the authority, not by the printer.
- Heritage protection. If the building is listed or in a conservation area, approval is needed.
- Advertising fees. Some municipalities charge a fee or tax on signs and advertising structures.
We can help: we prepare technical drawings and an installation mock-up (from approx. €85 net) to attach to an application, and for sites in Poland we can handle the heritage consultation or notification from approx. €210 net. More on the rules in our guide does a shop sign need permission.

Sample quote: 6 × 4 m mesh on a gable wall
Let us assume signage on a building's gable wall at a site 40 km from our base in Wieluń. Reinforced 370 g mesh, 600 × 400 cm:
- print: 24 m² × approx. €11 (16–49 m² band) = approx. €264 net,
- reinforcing webbing around the edge (recommended above 20 m²): 20 m × approx. €3.05 = approx. €61 net,
- welded seam joining widths (both dimensions exceed 3.2 m): 6 m × approx. €2.80 = approx. €17 net,
- installation: travel 80 km × €1 = approx. €80, lift for 1 day approx. €230, crew time 6 hours × €42 = approx. €252.
Total approx. €900 net, plus fixings chosen to suit the wall. You can see that for one-off facade signage, installation can cost more than the print itself. So for campaigns that will change, it pays to install a tension frame from the start – subsequent graphic changes are then quicker and cheaper.

Installation on a facade – what we watch out for
- Insulation. On a facade with polystyrene or mineral wool insulation, fixings must pass through the insulation into the masonry. An ordinary plug in render will not hold a light box or tensioned mesh.
- Wind. Large mesh on a gable wall presents a big surface to the wind. Hence reinforcing webbing around the edge, closer eyelets and tensioning on a rope in a pole pocket.
- Power. Light boxes and illuminated letters need a cable brought to the installation point. They are connected by the client's electrician or our qualified crew.
- Service access. We mount the power supply so it can be reached without dismantling the whole sign.
- Space for the lift. There must be room to position the machine under the wall; sometimes the pavement has to be occupied, which may require permission from the highway authority.
Work at height and installation costs are covered in detail in our guide installing signage at height.
- 24 hexpress printing (UV inks need no drying)
- approx. 3 daysstandard lead time
- up to 14 dayslarge and custom projects with installation
Plus courier delivery. Tell us your date — we plan production around it.
What to prepare for a quote
To quote facade signage without a site visit, we need:
- Photos of the facade straight on and from the side, showing the area below the wall.
- The size of the area for the signage and its height above ground.
- What the wall is made of and whether it is insulated.
- Whether there is power nearby (for illuminated signage).
- The display period: a three-month campaign or signage for years.
- The status of permissions: whether you already have the owner's consent or are still applying.
For larger projects we come out to survey and inventory the site – from approx. €85 net, refunded when you order production.
