A tyre shop has two seasons a year, and in each there are a few weeks that decide the result for the whole half-year. Customers look for a tyre fitter suddenly – when the first snow falls or when it warms up in April. The winner is the place that can be seen from the road and says clearly whether it takes walk-ins. A feather flag saying 'TYRES' does more here than the best-designed sign.
The second thing few people think about is storage. Several hundred sets of tyres, and each has to go back to the right customer. Proper labels and numbered storage cards save a lot of stress at the peak of the season, when twenty cars are waiting on the forecourt.
1. Sign and road
A tyre fitting point is often small and sits next to a garage, a petrol station or in an outbuilding. So the advertising has to reach out to the road. The sign on the building informs those who have already pulled in; flags and a banner draw in those driving past.
- Dibond sign with phone number→Name, 'tyres', phone number. Dibond with UV print lasts years outdoors and is cheaper than a light box.
- Roadside feather flags→A flag with big lettering visible from several hundred metres. Out of season it goes back in its bag.
- 'Tyres fitted – no appointment needed' banner→An economy banner for the fence, hung twice a year. Good for several seasons.
- Directional sign→If the workshop is at the back of a site, an arrow at the entrance from the street saves customers driving round in circles.

2. Peak season and the queue
At peak times order is what counts. A customer who knows their place in the queue and your closing time waits more calmly. Better to prepare this before the season than write signs in marker pen.
- Numbered job pads and queue tickets→The customer gets a number, the fitter gets a card with the car details. Printed with sequential numbering, in pads.
- Seasonal opening hours sign→In season you work longer, Saturdays too. A changeable PVC sign at the entrance tells customers without phone calls.
- Leaflets with the next change date→Handed out at collection: prices, storage, phone. Six months later the customer comes back with the leaflet in the glovebox.
3. Tyre storage
A tyre hotel brings steady income, but also responsibility for someone else's property. The label has to survive six months in a cold store and not fall off when the set is moved. Mark the racking so that any seasonal worker can find a set without searching.
- Tyre storage labels→Name, registration, location number. Labels on a roll, with a write-on field or printed from your list.
- Racking and section signs→Section letters and shelf numbers on signs. A set is found in a minute, not a quarter of an hour.
- Storage cards for the customer→A numbered card with a copy: what was left, in what condition, location number. Ends disputes at collection.

4. Tyre and alloy wheel sales
Tyre fitters increasingly sell tyres too. A customer standing at the counter is the perfect moment to show the offer, but only if the prices are on display.
- Price cards and wobblers by the tyres→Size, price per set fitted, promotion. In HIPS, reusable.
- Service price list in a backlit frame→Fitting, balancing, storage, puncture repair. A slim LED frame above the counter, graphic changed every season.
5. After the change
What the customer gets at collection decides whether they come back. A re-torque reminder is about safety, and at the same time it leaves your number in their car for months.
- 'Re-torque wheels after 50–100 km' sticker→A small sticker on the windscreen or dashboard with your name and phone. The customer comes back for the re-torque, and then for the next season.
- Mirror hanger→Job number on one side, reminder and phone on the other. Cheap print on plastic.
- T-shirts and sweatshirts for the team→Seasonal staff join at peak times. Branded clothing shows the customer at once who works there.

From our experience — what to watch out for
- Order seasonal materials early. In October and March the whole trade orders at once, and you need the flag in the first week of the rush, not the third.
- Put one word on a feather flag, two at most. 'TYRES' can be read from a moving car; the full company name can't.
- Store a seasonal banner rolled, not folded. Folded, it cracks along the creases after two seasons.
- Choose storage labels with a strong adhesive and test them on your own tyres before ordering the full stock. See [labels on a roll or on sheets](/poradnik/etykiety-w-rolce-czy-arkuszu).
- Use the same phone number on all materials. In season people ring from the road rather than visit your website.
