Print Finishing: 3D Varnish, Film and Foil Stamping

A finishing effect makes you want to touch a business card or a catalogue cover. We choose matte, gloss or soft-touch film to match the design, and 3D varnish and foil stamping are offered as made-to-order finishes — we prepare the files and effect masks for them.

Production options

Soft-touch film

A velvety-feel coating over the whole sheet. Slightly mutes colours and looks good on dark backgrounds.

3D spot varnish

A raised, glossy layer on a logo or selected elements. Offered as a made-to-order finish, confirmed after a brief.

Foil stamping

A metallic gold, silver or copper finish on lettering and fine ornamental details. Produced to order, with the effect discussed at the design stage.

Matte film + 3D varnish

A matte background with a glossy, raised element gives strong contrast. We apply the film on a laminator; the varnish is produced to order.

How we work

  1. A design with the finishing areas marked, or a request for us to propose an effect.
  2. Preparing the varnish or foil mask and approving a preview.
  3. Printing, laminating, applying the chosen finish, cutting or creasing.
  4. Checking the effect, packing and shipping.
04

Indicative price

The cost of a finishing effect depends on the technique, the area covered and the run size, and for short runs we price it together with the printing. That's why we don't quote a fixed rate — each project is priced individually after a brief.

Every finishing effect is quoted net for a specific design and run size, after reviewing the file and the elements to be decorated.

FAQ · 3D embellishment, varnish and foil

Frequently asked questions

How do I prepare a file for spot varnish?

Put the elements to be varnished on a separate layer, or as a spot colour at 100% coverage, aligned exactly with the graphics. If you're not sure how, we'll prepare the mask for you.

Can 3D varnish be applied to paper without film?

The effect is sharper on paper with matte film, since the varnish then shines against a matte background. On uncoated paper it soaks in and loses its gloss.

How fine can a foil-stamped element be?

Very thin lines and small text can blur together. We check the minimum element thickness on the file before quoting.

Does soft-touch film scratch?

It withstands everyday use, but on dark colours friction marks show up sooner than on gloss film.

Can you meet a fixed date?

Usually, yes. Our standard lead time is about 3 working days, and express printing in 24 hours is possible. As the manufacturer we plan production ourselves, so we can schedule your job around your deadline. Add the date to your brief and we will confirm it before work starts.
